Building the Future of Motorsport
USC Racing is a student-led design team dedicated to building one-of-a-kind prototype race cars for the FSAE competition. Each year, our members design, test, manufacture, and race SCR—our custom-built competitor optimized for the challenges of tight autocross tracks. With a focus on rapid acceleration and flawless handling, SCR is engineered to give our drivers a competitive edge and showcase the innovation and skill of our team.
Comprised of talented students from the University of Southern California, USC Racing offers a unique hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom. Through collaboration, technical design, and motorsport craftsmanship, our members gain invaluable skills and real-world knowledge. This experience not only fosters personal growth but also equips our team with the tools necessary for success in their future careers, making USC Racing a launchpad for the next generation of engineers and innovators.

The Engineering Design team applies fundamental engineering principles to create efficient and effective vehicle designs. This team is structured into several subdivision teams, each specializing in different aspects of the design process. WILLIAM COLVIN
Bill is a Senior Instructional Lab Tech at the Baum Family Makerspace with extensive experience in motorsports and manufacturing. He is a licensed driver for nearly all types of vehicles on earth, including motorcycles and planes. Bill offers ongoing technical support for various aspects of car design and production.
Dr. Yann Staelens
Dr. Staelens is an Associate Professor of Engineering Practice in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering department. He advises the team on all technical matters and is a vault of engineering knowledge to draw upon. Dr. Staelens has been working on restoring a 1955 Ford Thunderbird in his free time!
